Meet the team: Strum (Communications Manager)

Meet the team: Strum (Communications Manager)

In our next instalment of Meet the Team, we are excited to feature Ella (Strum), Communications Manager at Artis who joined us back in February.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got started in the arts?

I was lucky to have inspiring music teachers at both primary and secondary school who really encouraged my love of music. I’d wanted to play guitar for as long as I can remember, and now I’ve been playing for 16 years and today play in an alternative rock band. I’ve also taught guitar to children and love seeing them light up when they manage to play a favourite song for the first time. I really believe in the power of music – it’s a way to connect, especially for children who might not find academic subjects easy. That was true for me.

Professionally, my background is in marketing – a field that blends creativity with psychology and data. It’s a good fit for my skillset, but I always felt something was missing. I knew I wanted to use those skills for a cause I care about, which is what brought me here: the chance to combine marketing with creativity and purpose.

What initially drew you to Artis, and how did you become a part of this organisation?

When I first heard about Artis, I knew this was the right organisation for me – and my friends were telling me the job sounded perfect for me. I was keen to move out of the tech and software world into something meaningful and creative and so Artis was that perfect fit.

What does a normal workday look like for you?

My role is varied – one day I might be writing a website article, the next setting up LinkedIn ads or creating a newsletter. The focus is on raising awareness of Artis and encouraging more schools to sign up. I work across both our in-person and online programmes, with a particular focus on promoting our new creative streaming platform, Artis online.

What do you love most about your job at Artis?

I love the variety – every day is different, and I get to use my creative thinking to try new approaches and ideas. It’s made even better by the supportive, genuinely lovely team.

Looking towards the future, what are you looking forward to?

We’ve just launched our 5–7 content on Artis online, so I’m looking forward to seeing which marketing tactics work best and reaching more remote schools we haven’t been able to connect with before. Looking ahead, I’m really excited for the full platform launch in January 2026.
