Last year was a fantastic year for Artis.

We worked in more schools across the country supporting creative learning through weekly Artis sessions. We built our partnerships with new School Patrons through the match fund programme, and brought in new Trustees to add a wider range of experiences and specialisms.

Artis also had the results of the Pro Bono Economics report “Do the arts perform at school?” an in-depth, independent analysis into the economic evidence for delivering Artis’ curriculum-based performing arts programme in primary schools.

Key highlights included:

• For each £1 of cost, the Artis programme could generate up to £32 in lifetime benefits
• £8,700 estimated average lifetime benefit for children with elevated needs
• If rolled out across all schools in the top 20% of most deprived areas in England, the lifetime benefits generated could be £3.3 billion each year
• Estimated lifetime benefits of Artis programme since its creation in 2004 are £0.53 billion

We continued to deliver fantastic projects with cultural partners and corporate organisations, including Artswork, Guildhall and Bloomberg. We also offered hundreds of hours of Continuing Professional Development workshops for teachers to support confidence to use more creative approaches in their teaching.

This Summer, our performing arts educators (Artis Specialists) attended the first in-person training event we’d been able to host since Covid-19. It was incredible to all be back in the same room together and share best practice for arts learning in school.

We were also able to build our team to support more schools and to increase our fundraising potential going into 2023.

This year, we want more children to access arts than ever before through our Artis programme.

In a time when budgets are more stretched than ever, and the arts continue to be pushed out due to government priorities, Artis are building our match fund programme so that more schools in area of deprivation can access weekly creative learning with financial support. We are working with donors, trusts and foundations so that we can continue to offer high-quality arts provision to schools in the areas that need it most.

Alongside this we are working on our digital offer and developing our online learning platform, Artis Anywhere. We want schools to access Artis everywhere because we believe quality creative learning should be available in every classroom . We have big ambitions for this for the year ahead so watch this space!

We will be continuing to shout about the importance of creative learning and the power of the arts to support curriculum outcomes, as well as mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing.
