What do we do?
Artis is a creative learning charity that helps children achieve at school by integrating the performing arts throughout their learning. Artis creates a very different experience from a typical classroom by linking music, drama and dance to curriculum learning as facilitated by performing arts specialists. Working as a creative learning specialist gives practitioners a platform to use their creativity within an educational context, whilst receiving training and support along the way. We attract the best practitioners because we respect and nourish artistic talent.
What are we looking for?
Specialists to join our thriving team who are willing to regularly travel and work in and around London. Creative learning specialists are imaginative, versatile and skilled performing artists who can commit to delivering our creative curriculum on an ongoing basis (weekly – term time) across the course of the forthcoming academic year in primary schools. Specialists deliver anything from half a day to 4 days a week, returning to the same school(s) each week throughout the academic year.
The ideal candidate will have experience and a passion for working with children in an educational setting and embrace a holistic approach. We’re looking for practitioners with a flair for communication, are open to new challenges and are inspired to nurture creativity in children from diverse cultural backgrounds.
It is essential that candidates are available to commit to ongoing, regular work in order to be considered for this role. A willingness to travel within your region is essential.

What does the recruitment process for specialists involve?
All applicants are first required to submit an application form.
If you are shortlisted, this is followed by two rounds.
Round 1 consists of a group workshop followed by an individual audition and interview. The workshop will involve taking part in group performing arts activities covering movement, drama and singing. For the audition, you will present a short performance piece (2-3 minutes) of your choosing and the interview will consist of a series of questions.
Round 2 involves submitting a session plan and delivering a short activity (approximately 10 minutes) to children in one of our primary schools. Following Round 2, you will be asked to complete a short reflection form.

Do I have to pay for training?
No. Artis is committed to providing excellent training, ongoing professional development and high-level support to all Creative Learning Specialists, so this is where we make our most significant investment (up to £2,000 per Specialist each year).
How will Artis support me once I’m working in a school?
Consistency is vital to Artis, so to ensure our creative specialists continue to thrive, each one is assigned a personal mentor for weekly monitoring, support and advice.
How are specialists engaged?
Artis is a great opportunity for performing artists looking for a portfolio career that includes education and performance.
Specialists are engaged on a freelance basis. Contracts range from 12 – 36 weeks.
How much are specialists paid?
Artis operates a transparent fee system based on bands of pay related to performance, experience and training.
